If you own a Limited, or just want one that isn’t for sale anymore, you’ll need to know how Roblox trading works to make sure your account (and items) are safe. Roblox trading is mainly for Limiteds though you can trade other items and Robux for them.
Our Roblox items list is a great place to look into this a little more but you’ll need to know how to trade for them first.
Trading Means Roblox-Made Limiteds
Trading is just another way of saying swapping your items for someone else’s. It lets you trade what’s already in your inventory (and Robux) for a Limited someone else has. At least, that’s the case if the other player accepts the deal. They can always decline it or make a counter-offer.
Not everything is tradeable this way, though. Limiteds made by unofficial creators aren’t eligible.
Then there are game-specific items, like with MM2, Adopt Me, Grow a Garden, and Blox Fruits. These can sometimes have slightly different rules or limits than the main trading area since they’re not seen as Limiteds. Give them a check before trading anything.
They’re traded inside each game under that developer’s own rules, not through Roblox’s Trade window.
What You Need Before the First Trade
Not all Roblox players can make trades whenever they want, either. A few criteria are in play, the first being an age verification check. This applies to everyone, with or without Roblox Plus. And it plays a role no matter what side of the trade you’re on.
The Roblox plan you have also plays a role here.
Usually, this means having a Roblox Plus plan. But you could skirt around this with an older Premium plan, as long as it wasn’t canceled. Since these plans were taken off sale in April 2026, though, newer players might need to be Roblox Plus subscribers.
For a limited time, players in the U.S. without Plus get two free trades a month. It’s a bit restrictive so you’ll need to be smart with what you’re trading for, and when.
Thankfully, trading isn’t hard. Turn on the trading and inventory visibility in your Account Settings. You can find these under Privacy & content restrictions, then Trading & inventory.

Sending, Countering, and Accepting
Once you’re able to start Roblox trading, it isn’t too hard to actually do. First is to find a player who has an item (or items) you want to trade for. Then open their profile and click on the three dots on the top right-hand corner. You shouldn’t have a problem finding the ‘Trade Items’ section.
This brings you to the Your Offer section, which is exactly what you’d assume. There’ll also be the Your Request side, which is the Limited you’re trying to trade for. Once you’ve filled these out, click on ‘Make an Offer’ and wait for the other player to respond.
The other player can then decide whether they want to accept or decline what you’ve offered. And they can decide to counter-offer, depending on whether they want another item you have.

How to Tell if a Roblox Trade is Fair
Whether another player accepts, rejects, or even counters a trade request usually depends on how fair they think the trade is. This depends on a few factors.
First is the item’s value compared to the recent average price (RAP) of how they’ve been sold and traded. But the RAP can be easily manipulated so focusing on this alone could be misleading.
Then there’s the demand itself. The higher the demand is for specific Limiteds or other items, the more value it’ll have. A trade needs to meet that.
And lastly is whether items are labeled as ‘projected’ or ‘peaked.’ Peaked items have hit their maximum value so this could go down in time. And projected means they could have a noticeably different value relatively soon. Both of these can be unstable or prone to crashing so you’ll need to be careful with them when you’re trading.
Robux in a Trade Costs 30 Percent
This all applies to the items you want to trade but you can add Robux, too. But this comes with a few catches.
Roblox takes a 30 percent cut of the Robux once the trade is finished, and the Robux you add can’t be worth more than half the value of the items you’re offering. That usually means balancing the Robux and items you’re offering with the Limited you’re trying to trade for.
Say you add 1,000 Robux to a trade. The other player gets 700 of them, and Roblox keeps the other 300.
Before starting a trade with Robux, check how much the person getting them will receive with our Robux calculator.
What Changed from 2025 to 2026
If you’ve been playing Roblox for a few years, and trading items, you’ll notice things are a little different now than they used to be. That’s mainly because there’ve been a few changes between 2025 and 2026.
These are the main changes to keep in mind.
- Chat checks went publicly visible in January 2026.
- Roblox Plus came into effect in April 2026 with trading and reselling Avatar items being listed as a benefit. Premium plans closed to new users the same month.
- Premium plans lost their 10 percent Robux bonus in May 2026.
- Trading now needs an age check too. Roblox announced it in September 2026.
Roblox Will Not Fix a Deal Made Outside the Trade Window
While trades are possible outside of the official trade window, keep in mind Roblox claims it can’t enforce them. If another player breaks the deal, nothing can be done about it. Using Roblox’s Trade feature is the only way to do it safely on-platform.
Then there are the off-platform deals players can fall for when making a trade or sale. These usually fall under scams so it’s worth checking out our guide to common Roblox scams to keep yourself, and your account, safe.
What Item Sites Promise If You Pay Real Money
Roblox’s terms prohibit buying or selling items for real money off the platform. Those deals are void, and the account can be suspended. Check out our Roblox items list to help with this.
So, if you’re planning on going down that route, you’ll need to be as careful as possible. Item sites make their own promises and have their own safety and security features.
Most sites claim there’s a refund route, and our list shows what each site’s refund terms actually say. And our list includes player reviews to make sure everything’s as above-board as possible. Stay safe when you’re trading off-platform as you might not always be protected.
